Its time to look back at the products I’ve been trying out the last two months…
AFRICOLOGY:
Overview: The brand is presented beautifully – it was a pleasure to use. The packaging, feel and smell of both products were fantastic! They recommend that you add a few drops of Marula oil into your body butter while warming it between your hands, but I preferred to use them separately. I used the Marula oil after the butter, in places that needed more hydration and care like my boobs, bum, upper arms and knees. I noticed after the first week of everyday use, that I could skip a day or two of moisturising, as my skin felt well hydrated. After two months of use, I can definitely say my skin is in a better condition than when I started (and I consider myself well looked after!). Natural products always take a little longer to see results, so I think they have performed very well!
Claims:
Africology Body Butter R280 – “Improves the skin, body contour and well-being. Fights water retention, regenerates the epidermis, increases circulation and oxygenates tissue to preserve younger, healthier and more radiant skin.”
Africology Marula Conditioning Body Oil R280 – “A treatment that improves hydration and nourishes the skin, while uplifting the senses. An all-over body serum that is rich in palmitic acid, sealing the skin from free radical attack.”
Ingredients: Africology disagrees with the use of chemicals such as parabens, propylene glycol and other synthetic materials. Instead they endorses the use of indigenous South African ingredients such as Aloe, Rooibos, Marula and African potato along with 100% natural essential oils.
Strengths: The aromatherapy element to the products really make you feel like you’re giving your body a treat. The daily ritual of care was something I looked forward to, as it was more than just a conditioning of my skin – it was a sensorial experience that actually put me in a better mood! Sounds a little crazy. but it was genuinely true. Both the butter and the oil were fast absorbing and didn’t leave any oily residue on the skin. Another plus point is that a little goes a long way – both products lasted me two months with ease.
Weaknesses: Being an all-natural product, it doesn’t have the same shelf life as other cosmetics… once open, products need to be used within 6 to 8 months. It might also be a little on the expensive side for the average South African consumer – put it on your birthday and Christmas wish list!
